Participant Information

WIC provides reports for local WIC agency staff and for partner agencies. Data that includes personal identifying information (PII) or personal health information (PHI) can only be shared with persons directly connected with federal, state or local administration of the WIC Program. All WIC staff members are required to guard the confidentiality of WIC applicant or participant information obtained from these reports.

Release of information that contains only summary information (no PII or PHI) is allowed.

WIC Data Central contains additional reports, outside of those already in the WIC Compass system, that local agency staff may generate on their own by logging into the site. In order to gain access to WIC data central, you must have a Compass user ID and a special request must be sent to the State WIC Office.

Pediatric overweight and obesity data

Since 2012 the Colorado WIC Program analyzes its USDA WIC Participant and Program Characteristics (PC) file to assess the point prevalence of overweight and obese children ages 2 through 4 years. This analysis of the WIC PC file includes all actively enrolled participants in the WIC database during the month of April for each year. For more information, refer to the corresponding description for each year’s data report.

Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) data

Through 2011 the Colorado WIC Program submitted monthly participant data to the CDC PedNSS data set. The CDC compiled the data into annual reports (see table below). The reports describe various indicators, such as racial, ethnic and age distributions, child growth, anemia, breastfeeding, television viewing, smoking in household and more.

*If you use these numbers or tables for publications be sure to document and reference CDC Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance.

Pregnancy Nutrition Surveillance System (PNSS)

The Colorado WIC Program doesn't participate in the CDC PNSS. You may access national PNSS information on the CDC's website.
